Some people may think I'm crazy for posting this here. It's H/G. By the end of it, Snape's a good guy just like in canon. There aren't so many surprises in it, since it follows canon generally.

The writing is, of course, quite good, or I wouldn't have read it at all.

That said, the Hallows are pretty cool in this story. And they aren't the Deathly Hallows you're thinking. The politics are well done - extremely well done, I think. Characterization is pretty excellent, and Harry is less of a lump and, while not a total badass by any stretch, fights Voldemort with some fair bit of cunning, deception, and wit. And no Expelliarmus.

I really enjoyed this story, and it kept me raptured just as much as the real DH - resolving the series, if not resolving it how I wanted - did. I think that if this had been canon, a lot of people here would have been less disappointed than they are, while those like Taure and myself who enjoyed most of it would have also been satisfied.

5/5 for me, but we'll see how the rest of you receive it.

There's nothing wrong with H/G, as long it's written decently (i.e. no soul-bonds). I've only read the first installment of this (Ch. 1&2) but so far it's really not too shabby.

No rating until later, but I'm going to keep reading.

Same as Nukar, I have to finish reading it first to see what all the fuss is about. I'll let you know what I think after wards, but pretty much anything that isn't canon is an improvement to the eye-rape that is Deathly Hollows epilogue.

Though I dislike Ginny, unless its smut, I'll read this fic just cause you recommended it, Kmfrank.

I'm only a few chapters in and so far it's alright, nothing spectacular, but I'm sure it'll get better as it diverges more from canon.

Although, in Chapter Three (or, actually, Chap. 5, whatever), I swear I've read that exact 'diversion' elsewhere.

Or maybe I'd read the story before and forgot about it?

Will have to read more and see.

I read this story in full a few weeks back and left a review. Basically I thought this was really well done, this is what DH should have been if Rowling had decided not to shove her head up her ass and give into her shitty fantasies.

I mean at the end of Rowling's DH I sat there thinking what the fuck, so many questions left unanswered and so many aspects just felt wrong. Like for instance the way snape was killed or stupid shit like how Ron somehow spoke Parseltongue. Obvoiusly we all know how severely lacking DH was and how utterly unfulfilling it was as a conclusion to a decade long trilogy.

Anyway this story I thought did the job, a believable canon story that stays true to Rowling's style prior to her going insane and fucking over the series.

The H/G part is almost unnoticable really, It wasn't something that bothered me like it did in DH or HBP.

The Writing itself was excellent so yeah story got a solid 5 from me I suggest it as a read.

Meh, those things were my favorite parts of DH.

The story isn't bad as such, but it's kinda pointless to read. 3/5

This story has been on my favourite list for quite a while now. Not much of an honour though, I haven't cleared it up in ages.

Definitely the best DH rewrite I've seen yet. Battle at Hogwarts was a tad disappointing, because of reluctance to kill, and I prefer fics that write a totally new plot from existing material. But those are just minor quibbles, the author succeeded in what she was trying to do, and the story ended up a highly enjoyable read.

This fic has also been on my favourite list for a very long time, if only because it was the DH I wished we had. The ending, I'm not going to lie, was NOT great at all, but everything in between was very well written, and I greatly appreciate how the fic progressed.

And I hold this fic up as having the way Snape should have died in canon. Props for that, at least.

So, all in all, a well-written story, one I greatly enjoyed, and easily worth the 4.5 out of 5. Recommended for anybody who was so infuriated by DH that they'll read anything that brings a vestige of closure - and this fic does that and then more.

It's pretty good, except for the stupid anticlimax at the end. Would've gotten 5/5 otherwise, but that knocked it down to 4/5.

Well I must say, that apart from the epilogue which was a big let down; I expected something a little less...um...quaint, this fic is actually better than the canon DH.

Over all I Give this a 5/5 rating.

There were a few typographical errors. But other than that I found that it had very few plot holes, was very entertaining, and over all a masterpiece that read very much like the writing style of JKR herself in books 1-5.

Damn Cliches! this story is well written, but boring... I feel like killing myself after reading 11 chapters. Harry/Ginny Fails, Ron/Hermione (Never!)

    1 for being well written, -3 boring, -1 Harry/Ginny

    = 1/5

    Your math fails hard.

I read the entire thing. Very well written, and some decent, albeit predictable twists. I would definitely read again and recommend to others. 4.5/5

    Sigh.

Welcome back, Lord Potter. I mean royalduke. I mean mohd. Your contributions to this site have been overwhelmingly helpful, and I wish you many happy returns.

I especially enjoy your trolling of Joe and Silens, and the fact that you think 'bashing' is a genre. A story gets a +2 from you if it's got bashing? Authors everywhere should take note.

This particular review I thought was brilliant. Your dissection of why the Harry/Ginny relationship wasn't portrayed well in this story? Compelling. It's refreshing to read a review that doesn't have a knee-jerk dismissal of a certain pairing.

Likewise, your criticism of this story's overuse of cliches was dead-on. I mean, others might argue that it doesn't count as a cliche if it's so close to motherfucking canon, but what do they know? I applaud your willingness to go against the grain.

I give your review a 5/5. Well done.

I'm through chapter 29 right now, which due to the author sometimes combining chapters on FF.net, means that I'm through with FF.net chapter 24, and I have to say I'm impressed.

I've avoided all DH-rewrite stories until now because I figured if a person is going to use the same premise JKR used, the story was destined to fail before the first word was typed. That said, after a few of the very rare 5/5 ratings in this thread I decided to give it a shot.

I like almost every aspect of the story so far, and it just feels like a Harry Potter novel. There's mystery, intrigue, new characters, some romance, a lot of introspection but not angst on Harry's part, and all the players seem to be behaving in rational and understandable ways. The plot is moving along at a good clip, there seems to be little in the way of deus ex machina, and Harry is still having nagging doubts.

The quote given by Nukular Winter, while funny, is a good example of the macabre humor of the story, and I'd like to point out one of my favorite lines from the story thus far.

I look forward to finishing the story perhaps this weekend, and will give a full review at that time. For now, at more than halfway, I'd give it a solid 4-4.5, as there have been a few grammar errors, but nothing to deter me reading it. Highly recommended.

It's been a long time that I've liked a fanfic this much. I couldn't stop reading until I 'd finished it. The epilogue might be a little bit less but the fic is in general so much better than what I've come to expect that I can't do anything else but give it full marks.

Blech. It depends on your level of tolerance for the fundamental plot of DH, which doesn't change. In fact, a lot of the facepalm JKR stuff - Hermione doing 110% of Harry's thinking, Mega Hero Snape, Harry supporting Lucius Malfoy because he decides he likes his family more than Voldemort - is actually more egregious in this than DH. When Harry finds out he has to die he becomes a giant pussy and starts crying. At least canon Harry was suicidally brave to make up for his retardedness over the previous 500 pages.

2.5/5 for good writing, plot that is just a regurgitation of DH, unsatisfying conclusion.

I actually thought the ending was the best and most realistic part of the story.

Internet Tough Guy act aside, you'd probably sniffle a bit too, if you knew your death was within a few minutes, and you had to walk there. Just think about how people react when they're told similar news in the hospital, or when they're mugged at gunpoint.

Author handled it well - believable, but Harry puts his feelings aside and does it.

3.5/5 from me. Despite the re-hash, it's mostly enjoyable and not too annoying.

Hmmm, I have mixed feeling about this fic.

There are some original ideas and new takes on DH events, but most of time I felt as if I were reading DH again. Not to mention that some of the parts I actually liked from the 7th book were absent from the fic.

I must commend the author though. The writing was very canon-esque and characterization was well done. Overall a 3/5 for me, for the same reasons that DH would get a 3/5 from me -because its not something I'd reread.

Overall, better than The Dealthy Plot-Holes or whatever it was that JKR called it.

    Still...

Taboo. Really? The taboo has to be one of the dumbest plot elements ever. It ranks right up there with the underage magic detector. Why don't I just put a taboo on the unforgivables? Now I know exactly when someone casts them. How about the phrase "The Dark Lord" since seemingly only Death Eaters say that.

I liked it better than the original... but that's not saying much.
