Update.

Finished the exterior of the central brick building. Cleaned up the area adjacent to the big deepslate tower, created walking space there. Started creating connections between different areas so you can walk from one area to another. Got started on another massive tower, I saw a really cool build on r/MinecraftBuilds, that new huge tower is based on the reddit post.

 

Megabuild central room update. Added big pillars. The color-vomit build on the right contains a staircase. Activated the beacons so I can sprint around here now.

 

Update. Added the final pair of columns, mirror design to the opposite ones, different blocks. Every pair of columns is also an elevator/drop chute pair. The square columns go up to the first circular walkway, the taller columns (the grey ones) lead to the next level walkway, which allows access to the outside of the building.

The wall detail behind the new square columns is a compass rose and map (green is land, blue is ocean). Kinda hard to see because of the columns, but I actually don't mind it if some details of the build are hidden behind others like that, I think it gives the whole thing more depth and interest. I will be building a new map room there, hence the design.

Also, I finished the floor and I love this style of floor design. Definitely gonna use it more. It looks awesome on a large scale, especially if you're looking at it from a bit of a distance, and this megabuild is really quite big

 

New map room. For some reason I had tons and tons of white and light blue concrete, so I decided to use those blocks in a build. I think they go quite nicely with the whole thing and the room has a grand feel I was aiming for.

 

Trying something new

 

Lookin' cathedral-y! Gonna stick some stained glass windows in?

 

Wasn't planning glass in windows for that building, no. I'm aiming for a Roman-like temple/palace thing. The wide shots in the Gladiator movies where Commodus parades into Rome. The triangle front thing (I know it has a name, I just never remember it) above the door, dome in the middle.

I'm using all these grey blocks because I have chests upon chests upon chests of them and this is a good way to free up space, just throw thousands of blocks into a huge building. I am trying to bring in some color though, hence the diorite and nether brick in the line at the top, I will use netherbrick for the roof.

 

Finished the big castle. I want to build some underground rooms, but the bulk of the build is done. I will be building more in this style in the future. Sometimes super-detailing everything gets tedious. The big tower goes up to y=155. At the moment it's the second tallest tower I've built in this world.

 

Megabuild update! Work continues on the bottom interior section of the central room. I finished another section of the wall. Positioning of the columns makes it hard to take a good picture. I went for a nether castle look.

Update on the room from the last post, it's turning out to be one of my favorite recent builds.

The space is divided into two sections, this is directly behind the big windows, with a view of the central room of the megabuild. I tried to BDoubleO the walls.




This is the main section of this room, big tall chamber, I like how the u-shaped galleries turned out.

Finished that big room. Time for the next project.

 

Decided to improve my original world spawn. I didn't hate the build that had been there before, but I didn't have an idea on what to do with the rest of the island. Well, I did have an idea, but it didn't go well with that build. So I have added another tower. The gimmick with this one is that I divided it into eighths and each section is in a different color. Lots of fiddly block placement, but I like how it turned out.

 

Finishing up the main island base. There was this little islet just next to my island that I wanted to build something on. Came up with this.

 

Update on this thing. Walls are defined. Most of the roof is done. Next stage is the dome. Then I'll work on touching up the walls and building the interior.

There was the last remaining bit of available space on the main island. Today I can say this area of the world -- the original island base -- is finished. I might end up building more underground areas in the future, but the island build above ground is complete. Only took me 5 years.

 

Update on the megabuild. I'm building the next stage of the circular wall on the bottom level. I really like this castle gate build, but it's hard to take screenshots because it's hidden behind another building.

 

Last year, I revived a megabuild I'd abandoned years before. I've grown a bit bored of it, so to shake things up, I revived another abandoned project. You know. Because it's a different one.

Before the 1.17/18 updates that increased world height, I had spent some time Haste 2 mining out a huge hole with the intention of creating a massive hollowed-out space down to bedrock, which I would then slab over to mob-proof it. Within that huge, mob-proof cavern I would build a mob spawner farm for max gains spawn rates. The world height increase added 64 layers of additional digging that would need to be accomplished. And Haste 2 doesn't allow you to insta-mine deepslate. So, I abandoned the project.

This is probably massively pointless and will take years to complete, if it is ever completed at all. This is a stupid idea.

The Big Dig is under a desert. I decided to turn the first several layers of the space into something I just call The Garage because it kind of looks like one. This was all mined out by hand, with Haste 2. A lot of blocks, but Haste 2 insta-mining allows you to remove thousands of blocks within minutes as long you have the pickaxes to sustain the pace. Lighting is partially dim on purpose and the whole space is mob-proof because the floor is all slabs (except in the storage area in the center where I have chests and a command block teleport that links to the teleport hub.

It's 3.5 blocks tall (because slabs), consisting of a grid of 11x11 "tiles", each of which is... 16x16 blocks? Not sure. The andesite squares are 15x15 and then a tile shares the smooth stone sides with neighbors, but the tiles on the edges don't share external walls with a neighbor because there's just a sandstone wall there. Meh. Somewhere around 165x165x5 blocks were mined out for this build: 3.5 blocks of air height, 0.5 block of slab floor, 1 block of smooth stone ceiling.

I used a lot of stone and andesite for the ceiling and floor. A lot. 165x165 = 27,225. So, over 27k full blocks of stone which I smelted into smooth stone (ceiling) and half that in andesite (because floor is slabs). Each sandstone wall segment is 4x15 and there are 11 on each of 4 walls. 60x44 = 2,640.

Roughly speaking, I mined out over 136k blocks and used well over 42k blocks in the construction of The Garage. For fun. I've listened to a lot of YT video essays as podcasts. Big numbers are fun.
